‘Special TRB Editorial announcement’

By Doug Newhouse |

Doug Newhouse writes: This month is quite a special and nostalgic one for me, as I prepare to move into a different executive role at TRBusiness and hand over the Managing Editor’s chair to a very deserving Charlotte Turner.

As I have also confirmed in this month’s March edition of the TRBusiness magazine, this follows 18 wonderful years of heading up the day-to-day journalism side at the Travel Retail Business magazine (TRBusiness).

However, this is still no reason to break one of my golden rules, which is never talk more about yourself than the business, so I’ll keep the personal references short. I really do feel very honoured to have been in charge of the TRBusiness editorial department for all these years, on top of nearly two decades of working for a handful of other well-respected publications.

I am also extremely proud of the very special publishing company that my fellow directors Nigel Hardy, Janice Hook and I founded back in October 1997, which remains totally independent to this day.

The permanent TRBusiness Editorial team: (top down) Doug Newhouse, Editorial Director; Charlotte Turner, Managing Editor of the Travel Retail Business Magazine (from April 1) and Managing Editor Online; and the excellent Kevin Rozario, Senior Editor, Business & Brands. Also, not forgetting Ric Blow, our Design, Production & Multimedia Manager.(Regular editorial contributors also include): David Hayes; Caroline Sargent and John Gallagher.

But all things should evolve and one of life’s big challenges is knowing when it is time to take on a new management role yourself, while looking for your successor. So I am pleased to report that this is what we have all been up to at TRBusiness for the last year.

This follows my personal decision some time ago to step back from the full-time desk-bound editorship to concentrate on in-depth industry news, interviews, business analysis and some exciting special projects.

NEW MANAGING EDITOR IS CHARLOTTE TURNER

As a result, Charlotte Turner will take over the magazine title and responsibility as Managing Editor of the Travel Retail Business Magazine (TRBusiness) with effect from April 1 2015, and add this title to that which she already holds as Managing Editor Online.

As Deputy Editor & Online Editor to date, Charlotte has already had a major impact on the TRBusiness magazine, website and video channel since joining us back in 2011. She has also earned her opportunity to take on this big new responsibility and challenge, while continuing to report directly to me on all editorial matters.

Commenting on her new appointment Charlotte said: “I am privileged to work with a team of passionate, talented and generous individuals at TRBusiness; none more so than Doug. I have learned so much in nearly four years of working with him, which has prepared me for this next step.

“I look forward to leading the TRBusiness editorial team into a new era, drawing on Doug’s experience which spans an incredible 30 years-plus. With his guidance I will uphold the magazine’s reputation for its honest and unbiased journalism and TRBusiness will continue to provide the industry with a rich, diverse and comprehensive news source.”

Concluding, Doug Newhouse added: So all that remains is to join my fellow directors and highly-valued work colleagues at TRBusiness in taking this opportunity to congratulate Charlotte on this major promotion and wish her the very best of luck in her new future role.

I would also like to ask all of those who have extended their true support and trust to TRBusiness and myself over many, many years to extend the exact same to Charlotte, who I consider to be an outstanding individual with natural journalistic integrity and ability.

Last, but not least, I would also like to thank everyone who knows me in all four corners of the world for all of their help, patience and enduring trust over more than three decades. I am really looking forward to continuing working with all of you in my exciting new role at TRBusiness.

DOUG NEWHOUSE, EDITORIAL DIRECTOR.
