Sciacchitano was elected by ICAO’s 36-member governing body on Monday (25 November) and will lead the organisation on a three-year mandate, effective 1 January.

He succeeds Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, who has held the post since 2014.

NEAR FOUR-DECADE CAREER

Praising the ‘long and beneficial collaboration’ that has helped support safe and sustainable aviation, Angela Gittens, Director General, ACI World said: “I congratulate Mr. Sciacchitano on his appointment as the sixth Council President and look forward to continuing our close relationship with ICAO, particularly in capacity building and innovation.

“I would also like to thank Dr. Aliu for his significant contribution to the aviation industry. He has played a vital and successful role in drawing industry stakeholders together through collaboration and partnerships, and I wish him the best for his future endeavours.”
