Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex pioneers a new micro-signalling molecule activator.

The Estée Lauder Companies has unveiled the fifth instalment of its iconic Advanced Night Repair (ANR) skincare series.

Inspired by Chronolux Power Signal Technology – an innovate discovery in the scientific field of epigenetics – the Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex claims to support skin regeneration more effectively than ever while helping skin cell renewal and promoting collagen production.

The serum is available at worldwide duty free downtown and airport boutiques from 1 August.

A number of skus have been launched exclusively for travel retail, including the ANR Serum Duo, ANR Essentials, ANR Face Serum and Eye Supercharged Complex Set, ANR Face Serum and Eye Matrix Set, and Your Nightly Skincare Experts.

Clinical trials of ANR Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex have shown that after using one dropper, skin is radiant and plumped with 72-hour hydration and all-day eight-hour antioxidant protection.

After three weeks, lines are said to appear reduced. After one bottle (50ml), the skin reportedly feels firmer, looks healthy and possesses new bounce and vitality.

Eventually, pores will appear diminished and skin will look more toned, maintains Estée Lauder.

Sensory tests conducted among 543 women using the new serum over a four-week period returned positive feedback. Among the results, 90% stated their skin felt softer and smoother after using one dropper.

Behind the latest product is Chronolox Power Signal Technology, which includes a new patent-pending micro-signalling molecule activator.

The technology is created by a proprietary blend of yeast extract, a peptide and plant-derived ingredients to support the skin’s natural repair and youth-generating capabilities.

In this way, it boosts the synchronicity of the skin’s renewal process at night and maximises the skin’s circadian rhythm to repair and protect throughout the day and night.

First launched in 1982 as ‘Night Repair Cellular Recovery Complex’, the serum represented a breakthrough in skin repair and was the first skincare product to use Hyaluronic Acid, according to Estée Lauder.

Since then, four more products have been launched: Advanced Night Repair Protective Recovery Complex (1991), Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex (2009), Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II (2013) and the latest Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex (2020).

Its recognisable pharmacy-inspired brown bottle with apothecary dropper has generated considerable demand, with more than 11.7 million bottles of the ANR serum sold globally in 2019.

The ‘little brown bottle’ in the latest ANR range has been crafted and redefined into premium, recyclable glass featuring a sleek silhouette and increased translucency gradient.

BEHIND THE SCIENCE

To mark the launch of the new ANR range, members of the press including TRBusiness were invited to a scientific presentation held in May via Zoom.

Attendees heard from Dr Nadine Pernodet, Vice President, Global Research & Development – Skin Biology and Bioactives, The Estée Lauder Companies, and *Dr Paolo Sassone-Corsi, Director of the Center of Epigenetics and Metabolism Professor at the University of California, Irvine.

In a series of detailed presentations, both described how a new scientific innovation fuelled the creation of the product.

Epigenetics, derived from Greek and meaning ‘above genetics’, is a field of study concerned with understanding how DNA interacts with the environment based on its change over a lifetime.

While DNA is rigid, the epigenome is responsible, flexible, variable and dynamic and has the capacity to generate microRNAs (miRNAs), webinar attendees heard.

As such, the ability of miRNAs to influence genes in the body has sparked a new area of epigenetics research.

This is highly important in the context of skincare and the ageing process, as the skin is in direct contact and exposed to a number of environmental factors such as light, pollution and radiation.

Based on research conducted by Sassone-Corsi, gene expression and regulation is tied intimately to the body’s circadian rhythm, a 24-hour cycle present in every cell of the body.

Estée Lauder points out that it has been shown that 25% of ageing is predetermined by genes, with the remaining 75% believed to be influenced by environmental and lifestyle factors.

For the past seven years, Estée Lauder scientists have researched more than 80 micro-signalling molecules found in skin cells to better understand their role in skin ageing.

The discovery came when the company identified a specific micro-signalling molecule that proves fundamental to the skin’s natural repair, cell proliferation and promotes a number of anti-ageing trails.

In turn, the micro-signalling molecule helps skin increase its natural renewal of cells and boosts collagen production, as mentioned. This level of micro-signalling molecule has also been found to decline as part of the ageing process, observes Estée Lauder.

*Shortly before this report went to press, TRBusiness sadly learned of the unexpected passing of Dr Paolo Sassone-Corsi.

As a world renowned expert in epigenetics and circadian rhythm, Sassone-Corsi had dedicated himself over the course of three decades to research focused on the molecular mechanisms of transcriptional regulation and chromatin remodelling, specifically in response to changes in signalling transduction and cellular metabolism.

The distinguished professor made immeasurable contributions to the fields of transcription, epigenetics, metabolism and endocrinology and held a close relationship with The Estée Lauder Companies.

The beauty giant had recently announced a scientific collaboration with Sassone-Corsi to further develop common interests in skin biology and epigenetics.

TRBusiness offers its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Dr Sassone-Corsi at this difficult time.
