Tallink’s €230m ‘Megastar’ boasts 2,800sq m ‘Superstore’
By Charlotte Turner |
AS Tallink Group’s subsidiary Tallink Line Ltd now boasts the addition of a new €230m ($247m) 212 metre-long Megastar vessel which has a capacity for 2,800 passengers, a car deck for 800 passenger vehicles and a near-3,000sq m ‘Traveller Superstore’.
Onboard the new Megastar, the 2,800 sq m ‘Traveller Superstore shopping area’ stretches over two decks (seven and eight) with new self-service solutions, seven restaurants, cafes and bars. According to Tallink the new store is similar to the ones on the Silja Symphony and Silja Serenade ships.
The large shopping area will open in the morning before the first departure and will close following the final trip. It will also be open during port stays, with the exception of the Helsinki harbour as there are restrictions on selling alcohol and tobacco in Finnish waters.
There will be 14 service counters altogether and products on offer include those in the following categories: Perfume & cosmetics, accessories, fashion, toys, sweets, deli and alcohol.
Passengers will also be able to buy smaller items from the kiosk on Deck 8, which will sell food and drinks, as well as magazines, newspapers and souvenirs.
FOUR CLASSES OF TRAVEL
There will be four different travel classes onboard the Megastar including standard Star Class, upgraded Comfort Class, exclusive Business Lounge and a new area, Sitting Lounge.
The new ship has a service speed of 27 knots and will operate according to the existing Tallink Shuttle service schedule on the Tallinn-Helsinki route, replacing the fast ferry Superstar.
The Megastar starts operation on the Tallink Shuttle service on 29 January 2017, travelling between Helsinki and Tallinn, and the group says ‘she will be the most advanced ferry in the Baltic Sea’.
