KAL attendant launches major lawsuit against Cho
By Doug Newhouse |
Kim Do-hee, the female Korean Air flight attendant caught up in last December’s ‘incident’ at Korean Air is suing the airline and its former SVP of Inflight Service Heather Cho.
Heather Cho was jailed in February for ordering a plane to return to the gate at New York JFK last December because ‘nuts had been served incorrectly’.
Flight attendant Kim has enlisted two well-known New York US law specialists in compensation – Weinstein and Kobre & Kim – who are jointly bringing the case against both KAL and Cho to the Supreme Court of the State of New York County of Queens.
As reported, Cho is already serving a one-year custodial sentence and recently went back to the Seoul High Court to plead for leniency and a reduction in her sentence. The prosecution has countered by calling for the sentence to be increased, suggesting it was too lenient in the first place. The court is still reviewing the request.
Meanwhile, Kim Do-hee’s US legal representatives have wasted no time in making it clear that they will repeat the earlier allegations that she was both physically and verbally abused by Cho.
FINES AND SENTENCES INCREASED
They will also allege that KAL executives tried to persuade Kim to soften her account of the incident, firstly with government investigators and then again prior to giving testimony against Cho in court. [Cho is the daughter of Korean Air Chairman Cho Yang-ho-Ed]. They will also allege she was offered a completely new job as an incentive by KAL.
Meanwhile, as a direct result of the Korean Air ‘Cho incident’ the South Korean Government’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has significantly increased the financial penalties for any individual breaking aviation regulations which endanger safety to $50,000, plus a possible five-year custodial prison sentence.
The above story follows on from the February 12 news this year that Heather Cho was jailed for one year. Click here for details: http://www.trbusiness.com/regional-news/asia-pacific/korean-airs-cho-gets-one-year-prison-sentence/72918
