Airport Authority Hong Kong extends rent relief package until May 2021

By Andrew Pentol |

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) has extended the relief package for its commercial and airline tenants until May 2021 due to the prolonged impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

AA first introduced rent relief for partners in February 2020 and has continued to do so as the pandemic has escalated.

Rent relief for retail and catering tenants will continue. Rent has already been waived for shops and restaurants in the terminal which have suspended business.

The base rent has also been waived for those concessions which have remained open to provide essential services.

In the meantime, the continuing waiver or reduction of various fees for the aviation industry includes the full waiver of parking charges for idle passenger aircraft and airbridge fees; reduction of passenger aircraft landing charges and fee reductions relating to ramp handling, maintenance and airside vehicles.

FEE WAIVERS FOR TERMINAL LICENCEES

Rent relief has been offered to terminal tenants covering lounges and offices, while fees have been waived for terminal licencees including ancillary passenger services, commercial services counters and cross-border transport operators.

Rent relief for Airport Authority of Hong King partners was first introduced in February 2020.

Concessions on fees for aviation support services (into-plane fuelling, aircraft maintenance and inflight catering services) have also been granted.

The airport company said: “AA will closely monitor the operating environment and provide necessary assistance to the airport community during these challenging times. The relief measures will be adjusted from time to time depending on the air traffic and business recovery situation at HKIA.”
